Please note this course information relates to our traditional road race. For 2018 we will be running a 10K Trail Chase. Please follow our on our Facebook and Twitter  accounts for course information.

10K Course

The Pensford 10K is a BARR certified road race on closed roads. The course is an undulating route that offers an early challenge for the competitive runners as well as providing a well supported and friendly atmosphere for less competitive runners to enjoy the scenic route through the Chew Valley. The course record stands at 31.35 set by Rob Whalley in 2005.

You can also view the 10K course on our Strava profile here.

Below is a venue map showing start and finish locations.

10K Profile

The course starts you off with a couple of short climbs with associated descents which prepare you nicely for the main climb of the day which dominates the course profile. Peppershells Hill climb comes at the mid-point of the race and offers 100m elevation gain over it’s 2km length. There is a short rest bite two-thirds of the way up the climb where there’s a very popular water station and a chance to recover before challenging the final third of the climb. The good news is that once you’re over the steep portion of the climb at 6.8km you’re on a largely downhill trajectory to the finish.

Although the profile looks daunting, runners of all levels enjoy the challenge and reward of completing our course so don’t be afraid.

2k Fun Run

In addition to the 10K race we offer a 2K Fun Run which is extremely popular with children and families. The course has one short steep climb that’s sure to put a sweat on those with more ambitious fancy dress. Check out our race photographs for some outfit idea’s!

The 2K is organised by the Pensford Primary School:
